Product Description
Sandra Mercer moves back to her childhood home hoping to seek refuge from a better divorce and to conceal a painful secret. She is shocked to find her youngest daughter, Carla, wearing the same letter sweater she wore when she was in high school--a gift from Carla's boy friend Kevin Dawson. The sweater originally belonged to Jack Dawson, Sandra's high school and college sweetheart. Sandra and Jack had planned to wed as soon as he'd completed his military service. But fate would have its own way for the two lovers and a "Dear John" letter from Sandra, delivered just weeks before Jack was to return home, ended the dream they both had shared. For thirty years their paths never crossed. Now in the autumn of their lives, Sandra discovers that Jack, a retired TV personality, has returned home to write a book. She must now decide if she wants to deal with a love that has never gone away and a regret that that has punished her for a lifetime or to run away again.

I read this book in two days, and it was most enjoyable. It was wonderfully written, bringing both Eastern North Carolina and a romantic love story together. You will be delighted when you read it, though be prepared to not be able to put it down.

This is such a beautiful love story. But more than that, it gives hope--hope that even in the middle of personal trials, love heals.

The Letter Sweater isn't just a love story. It's about life and healing and courage and vulnerability. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat and the romance makes you want to cheer for everyone who's ever had the audacity to utter the words, "I love you". Skip Crayton's writing draws you in and lets you feel a part of the story he's weaving.

5 out of 5 stars Heartfelt, touching love story with a unique twist   February 19, 2009

Men who know how to write love stories are few and far between. In The Letter Sweater, Skip Crayton proves he belongs on that short list.

I'm not going to be a spoiler and reveal the unique twist Crayton adds to the plot. But if you prefer love stories about genuine feelings between well-drawn, true-to-life characters, over Danielle Steele-ish fantasies, you'll love this book.

Skip Crayton, you put together a wonderful work with The Letter Sweater. You described love in its rawest form and painted such an accurate picture of life in Eastern North Carolina. For anyone searching for a book about small town love surviving against all odds, I could not imagine a better read. Thank you, Skip, for taking us on the journey with Sandra and Jack!
